Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Vaginal Reconstruction/Tightening is something I need?

Some women start to experience loss of friction during intercourse due to child birth trauma or drop of hormones associated with aging.  If you are questioning yourself whether you can benefit fromvaginal tightening, Dr. Raykhman can help you determine that. This decision is difficult to make, but luckily, you don’t have to make it alone. Dr. Rayhkman will be able to tell you if a certain procedure is advisable for you, and help you make a well-informed decision based on a confidential and honest consultation.

Will my insurance cover any of these procedures?

Although Dr. Raykhman is a valued practitioner with many major insurances, unfortunately, these procedures are considered to be cosmetic procedures by most insurance companies and they will not cover them. It is imperative that you check with your insurance company prior to arranging any procedure.

I am interested in having a procedure but I don’t want anyone to know. What should I do?

Privacy is not something that you need to worry about. From your initial contact through surgery and follow-up, the NY Labiaplasty team is committed to maintaining your confidence every step of the way. We welcome you to share with us all your specific concerns so we can assist you better.

How long will the procedure take?

Every case is different. It generally depends on the extent of the procedure, but each procedure usually takes about one to two hours.

How long will it take to recover?

It depends greatly on the procedure, but on average, most patients are able to return to work within 3 to 7 days. In the rare case that complications arise, additional time away from work may be required.

Will I have scars from the labioplasty, and will it look natural?

With Board Certified Urologist Dr. Raykhman’s technique, there is rarely any noticeable scarring. Labial skin is very thin, so scars are very difficult to see. Usually, the most darkened labial tissue is removed during the procedure. The scars will fade over time and become barely visible. The normal labial edge remains, but is straight and not redundant or scalloped. It is very rare for another doctor or a partner to suspect that surgery was even performed due to the natural-looking result.

Can I lose sensation or have chronic discomfort with labia reduction?

There is very little risk involved when it comes to Labia reduction. During this procedure, we will remove the protuberant portion of each labium, as well as reduce the clitoral hood. Removal of this skin does not negatively affect sensitivity or sexual sensation. In fact, many women claim they feel an enhanced sensation due to removal of excess tissue the curing of unnecessary skin which often causes pain during intercourse.

Who will be my surgeon?

Dr. Vitaly Raykhman, a board certified urologist, will be your surgeon. You will meet during your initial consultation. He will also be the same surgeon who will look after you and provide all of your post-operative care, including emergency care if required.

Where will the operation be performed?

Patients of NY Labiaplasty have the tremendous resources of the New York Urologic Institute ready at their disposal, including use of the latest medical technologies, a skilled staff of over 30 medical professionals, and state-of-the-art procedure and recovery rooms.

What tests are required before my surgery?
